The 1/2" AR500 Static Silhouette Target is a steel shooting target available in 9"x15" and 12"x20" sizes. Choose the 9"x15" target for a smaller strike face and more compact setup, or the 12"x20" target for increased visibility at distance. Both options are CNC laser-cut from 1/2" AR500 steel and rated for centerfire handguns and rifle cartridges up to .300 Win Mag when used at the specified minimum shooting distances. The target ships unpainted without mounting hardware. Manufactured in the United States.

The silhouette target uses a pre-drilled mounting hole that accepts a standard 1/2" carriage bolt and can be mounted to a steel post, 2x4 or other compatible structure. CNC laser-cutting helps control the heat-affected zone around the plate perimeter and preserve hardness at the edges. The silhouette profile works for pistol fundamentals, carbine drills and long-range rifle training. Not sure which target thickness is right for your cartridge? Consult the Shoot Steel Cartridge Guide.

Safety and Usage

Minimum shooting distances:

  • Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
  • Centerfire rifle at or below 2,800 fps muzzle velocity: 100 yards minimum; increase distance if pitting is observed
  • Centerfire rifle above 2,800 fps muzzle velocity: 150 yards minimum; increase distance if pitting is observed
  • Long-action rifle cartridges: 200 yards minimum
  • Maximum rated cartridge: .300 Win Mag
  • Always shoot perpendicular to the target face

Always use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect the target and mounting hardware before every session and replace any plate that shows cratering or severe pitting. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

FAQs

What is the difference between the 9"x15" and 12"x20" targets?
Both options use the same 1/2" AR500 silhouette design and mounting method. The 9"x15" target provides a smaller strike face for more demanding drills and a more compact setup. The 12"x20" target provides a larger aiming area for improved visibility at longer distances and faster target transitions.

What calibers is this target rated for?
The target is rated for centerfire handguns at a minimum of 10 yards and centerfire rifles up to .300 Win Mag. Rifles at or below 2,800 fps require a minimum distance of 100 yards. Rifles above 2,800 fps require at least 150 yards, and long-action rifle cartridges require a minimum of 200 yards. Increase distance if pitting is observed.

How do I mount the silhouette target?
The pre-drilled mounting hole accepts a standard 1/2" carriage bolt. The target can be mounted to a steel post, 2x4 or other compatible structure. Mounting hardware is not included.

Why is the target CNC laser-cut?
CNC laser-cutting helps control the heat-affected zone around the perimeter of the target, preserving hardness at the plate edge while producing a clean, consistent cut.

Does the target ship painted?
No. All Shoot Steel targets ship unpainted. White and bright orange provide strong downrange visibility and make impacts easier to track.
