Description
The 50 BMG Steel Target – 18″x30″ Gong is built from 3/4″ AR500 steel to handle the extreme impact of large-caliber rifle rounds at safe distances. Its design positions the chain and mounting hardware behind the target face, protecting them from direct hits and extending their lifespan. This heavy-duty gong mounts using 5/8″ bolts for secure, long-term use.
Caliber Ratings and Minimum Distances

50 BMG ball and brass solids: 300 yards minimum
-
416 and 408 lead core: 300 yards minimum
-
416 and 408 brass solids: 400 yards minimum
-
Not rated for 50 BMG AP (armor-piercing) or API (armor-piercing incendiary) rounds
These are minimum recommended distances. Depending on your specific load and barrel length, you may need to move farther back for safety and to prevent damage. Large-caliber rounds are capable of penetrating steel—proper range setup is essential.
Stand Compatibility
Due to its size, weight, and energy requirements, this gong is only compatible with the Complete 60″ HD Gong Stand when using BMG mounting hardware. Using other stands can lead to unsafe conditions or structural failure.
Safety Guidelines
Do not shoot at this target from closer than the recommended distances. Avoid AP or incendiary ammunition entirely. Bullet fragments (“splash”) from steel-core or brass solids can damage nearby objects and cause ricochets. Remove unnecessary items from around the target and ensure a safe backstop is in place.
