Target Painting Stencils

The Target Painting Stencil system gives you a fast, repeatable way to mark precise aim points on your steel targets without sacrificing the audible feedback that makes steel valuable. Designed to work around Shoot Steel mounting hardware, each stencil is CNC laser-cut from aluminum and built to sit flush for clean, consistent paint lines every time.

Cardboard and paper targets wear out quickly and eliminate real-time feedback. These stencils let you train on steel while still tracking accuracy and shot placement. Integrated cutouts and a bendable tab allow you to hold the stencil in place while painting without getting paint on your hands. Repaint, reset, and keep shooting.

This system works across multiple target sizes and styles, including gongs, static plates, and silhouettes. Whether you are working pistol fundamentals, rifle zero confirmation, or running high-volume drills, these stencils give you a clear and repeatable visual reference.

Available Options

• 8" / Multi-Use Stencil: Designed for 8" static and gong targets or larger. Ideal for marking multiple zones on larger plates. Stencil measures 6.5" diameter. Center circle is 2". Outer ring is 1/2" thick and 4" diameter.
• 10" Target Stencil: Designed for static and gong targets 10" and larger. Corner cutouts allow the stencil to sit flush on gongs. Stencil measures 10" diameter. Center circle is 3.5". Outer ring is 1" thick and 7" diameter.
• Silhouette Stencil (12" x 20"): Designed for silhouette targets. Shoulder cutouts allow flush fit on gongs, and center cutout allows proper positioning on static targets. Stencil measures 12" x 17". Center mass is 5" x 8". Head zone is 1.5" tall and 3.25" wide.

Usage

Place the stencil against the target surface, hold using the integrated tab, and apply paint evenly across the cutout areas. Allow paint to dry before shooting. Reapply regularly to maintain visibility and track shot placement over time.

Shipping costs apply to the lower 48 U.S. states. Orders ship via the most efficient method available. All targets and stands ship unpainted.

FAQs

Why use a stencil instead of paper targets?
Paper targets need to be replaced constantly and do not provide audible feedback. A stencil allows you to repaint steel targets, giving you both visual reference and immediate shot feedback.

Will this work with all Shoot Steel targets?
Yes. These stencils are designed to work with static and gong targets while accommodating standard mounting hardware used across Shoot Steel systems.

Does the stencil sit flush on the target?
Yes. Each stencil includes cutouts and shaping to allow it to sit flush on compatible target sizes, ensuring clean and consistent paint lines.

What is the advantage of aluminum construction?
Aluminum provides a balance of durability and weight, allowing the stencil to be reused repeatedly without bending or degrading under normal range use.

Can I use this on multiple target sizes?
Yes. Each stencil is designed for specific target sizes, but the smaller stencil options can also be used on larger targets to create multiple aiming points.

Do you recommend a specific paint?
Yes. We recommend using our Target Paint, which is formulated for steel with high resin content for better coverage and visibility.

Is this product made in the United States?
Yes. Our products are manufactured in the United States.

What does the warranty cover?

Personal and Recreational Use

• Target plates: covered against manufacturing and material defects for 90 days from date of delivery
• Welds: covered for 1 year from date of delivery
• Coverage includes weld integrity, materials and workmanship

Commercial and Range Use

• All components: covered against manufacturing and material defects for 90 days from date of purchase
• Coverage includes weld integrity, materials and workmanship
• Normal wear, pitting, cratering and target face degradation from high-volume or high-impact use are not covered

To qualify for warranty coverage, targets must be used and maintained in accordance with ShootSteel safety and distance guidelines, including:

• No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition
• Minimum recommended distances observed at all times
• Targets mounted to ShootSteel specifications
