The Magnum Spring-Popper is a self-resetting steel target built for handgun and heavy rifle use through .338 Lapua Magnum. The 16"x8" target face is CNC laser-cut from domestic 1/2" AR500 steel and mounted to a 3/8" AR500 base with a heavy-duty spring and 5/8" hardware. Hit the plate and the spring returns it upright automatically, letting you keep shooting without walking downrange to reset the target. The complete Shoot Steel system is manufactured in the United States.

The included leg set raises the target approximately 6" off the ground. Pre-drilled holes in the base accept the legs and can also be used as staking points when you want to anchor the base directly to the ground. The 3/8" AR500 base provides hardened-steel protection below the target face, making the system better suited for the impact and splash associated with magnum rifle training.

What's Included

  • (1) 16"x8" Magnum Spring-Popper target face, 1/2" domestic AR500 steel, CNC laser-cut
  • (1) Base, 3/8" domestic AR500 steel
  • (1) Heavy-duty spring assembly
  • (1) Leg set with 5/8" hardware
  • Legs raise the target approximately 6" off the ground
  • Not included: Ground stakes
  • Not included: Paint

Setup

Install the included legs using the 5/8" hardware to raise the target approximately 6" off the ground. The pre-drilled base holes can also be used as staking points if you prefer to anchor the system directly to the ground without the legs. Verify that the target, spring, base and hardware are secure before shooting.

Safety and Usage

This target is rated for centerfire handguns and centerfire rifles through .338 Lapua Magnum when used with standard lead-core, copper-jacketed ammunition at the proper minimum shooting distance.

Minimum shooting distances:

  • Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
  • Centerfire rifle at or below 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 100 yards minimum
  • Centerfire rifle above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 200 yards minimum
  • .338 Lapua Magnum: 200 yards minimum
  • Increase distance any time you observe pitting or cratering

Always shoot perpendicular to the target face. Use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect the target, spring, base, legs and hardware before every session. Replace any component that shows cratering, severe pitting or structural damage. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health. Use standard lead-core, copper-jacketed ammunition only. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

FAQs

What makes the Magnum Spring-Popper different from a standard popper?
The Magnum Spring-Popper uses a 1/2" AR500 target face, 3/8" AR500 base and 5/8" hardware to support heavier rifle use. It is rated through .338 Lapua Magnum at a 200-yard minimum distance.

What calibers is this target rated for?
The target is rated for centerfire handguns and centerfire rifles through .338 Lapua Magnum when used with the proper ammunition and minimum shooting distance.

How does the self-resetting system work?
A heavy-duty spring connects the target face to the base. When the plate is hit, it moves rearward and the spring returns it to the upright position automatically for the next shot.

Can I use the target without the legs?
Yes. The pre-drilled holes used for the legs can also serve as staking points, allowing the base to be anchored directly to the ground. Ground stakes are not included.

What ammunition can I use?
Use standard lead-core, copper-jacketed ammunition only. Do not use steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

Does this target ship painted?
No. The target, base and legs ship unpainted. White target paint and bright orange target paint provide strong downrange visibility and make it easier to monitor target condition.

Is this product made in the United States?
Yes. This product is manufactured in the United States from domestic AR500 steel.

Do you warranty your products?
Yes. We stand behind our products.
