1/2" AR500 5" Steel Target with Rubber Strap

The 1/2" AR500 5" Steel Target with Rubber Strap is a compact reactive steel shooting target package built for high-volume pistol shooting and short-action rifle use. It includes a 5" target cut from 1/2" AR500 steel, an 8" rubber strap and hardware for mounting to a 2x4. The rubber strap allows the target to swing aggressively on direct hits while keeping the setup simple and compact. Made in the USA.

The 5" steel target is precision cut with a CNC laser to reduce the heat-affected zone around the plate edge. The 8" rubber strap is designed to stay flush against the 2x4 for a more consistent swinging motion and to help prevent the target face from shifting sideways. The strap works with targets up to 1/2" thick and up to 8" round.

Assembly

Mount the rubber strap to a 2x4 using the included hardware. A hole must be drilled through the 2x4 with enough clearance underneath for the rubber strap to move and make contact during target movement.

Keep the rubber strap flush to the 2x4 to promote a consistent swinging motion and reduce sideways movement of the target face.

For a complete stand, 2x4 lumber or conduit is required. ShootSteel 2x4 Gong Brackets can be used for a stand built entirely from 2x4 lumber. ShootSteel 2x4 Hybrid Brackets can be used when building a stand with conduit legs.

Safety and Usage

Minimum shooting distances:

• Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
• Rifle at or below 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 100 yards minimum
• Rifle above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 200 yards minimum
• .338 Lapua Magnum: 200 yards minimum
• Increase distance any time you observe pitting on the target face

The target is rated for all handgun cartridges and rifle cartridges up to .338 Lapua Magnum when used at the required minimum distance. The supplied product information specifically lists 7mm Mag, .30-06, .300 Mag, .338 Mag and .45-70 as compatible cartridges for this 1/2" AR500 target.

Always shoot perpendicular to the target face. Use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect the target, rubber strap and mounting hardware before every session. Replace any plate that shows cratering or severe pitting. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.
