1/2" AR500 18"x30" Complete Gong Package

The 1/2" AR500 18"x30" Complete Gong Package gives you a large-format steel shooting target system for handgun and long-range rifle shooting. The package includes an 18"x30" AR500 steel gong, 15" Steel Chain Mounting Kit, Hybrid Hanger Pair and 2x4 Gong Stand Brackets. Add standard 2x4 lumber and you have a complete freestanding gong setup with a large strike face that is well suited for distance shooting and range use. Made in the USA.

The 18"x30" gong is CNC laser-cut from 1/2" domestic AR500 steel. CNC laser-cutting provides precise control of the heat-affected zone compared with plasma cutting, helping preserve hardness around the plate edge while creating a clean perimeter. The target is rated for all centerfire handguns and rifle cartridges up to .338 Lapua Magnum when used at the specified minimum shooting distances.

Assembly

Build the stand using standard 2x4 dimensional lumber available from most hardware or home improvement stores. Cut the crossmember to 48-60" and four legs to 60-80" each. The product photos use 60" legs as a reference.

Position the Hybrid Hangers on the 2x4 crossmember and attach the 15" steel chain. The chain locks into the hybrid hangers without tools, so no drilling or additional hardware is required for the chain connection. Hang the 18"x30" gong from the chain to complete the target system.

Safety and Usage

Minimum shooting distances:

• Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
• Rifle at or below 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 100 yards minimum
• Rifle above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 200 yards minimum
• .338 Lapua Magnum: 200 yards minimum

Increase shooting distance any time you observe pitting on the target face. Always shoot perpendicular to the target face and use at least Grade 5 mounting hardware. Use quality eye and ear protection and inspect the plate, chain and all hardware before every shooting session. Replace any plate that shows cratering or severe pitting.

Repaint the target regularly to track impacts and monitor the condition of the target face. Do not use steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

What calibers is this package rated for?
The target is rated for all centerfire handguns at a minimum distance of 10 yards and rifle cartridges up to .338 Lapua Magnum at a minimum distance of 200 yards. For rifles at or below 3,000 fps muzzle velocity, 100 yards is the minimum starting distance. Rifles above 3,000 fps require a minimum distance of 200 yards. Increase distance any time you observe pitting on the target face.

What lumber do I need to complete the stand?
Use standard 2x4 dimensional lumber available at most hardware or home improvement stores. A 48-60" crossmember and four 60-80" legs are recommended. The product photos show 60" legs as a reference. Lumber is not included.

How does the chain attach to the hybrid hangers?
The 15" steel chain locks into the hybrid hangers without tools. Position the hangers on the 2x4 crossmember, drop the chain through and hang the target. No drilling or additional hardware is required for the chain connection.

Why is the target CNC laser-cut instead of plasma-cut?
CNC laser-cutting controls the heat-affected zone more precisely than plasma cutting, helping preserve hardness at the plate edge. This creates a cleaner perimeter and more predictable splatter behavior on impact.

Does this package ship painted?
No. All ShootSteel targets ship unpainted. White and bright orange offer the best contrast downrange for tracking hits.

Is this product made in the United States?
Yes. This target is manufactured in the United States from domestic AR500 steel.
