The 6-Target Dueling Tree | AR500 Reactive Steel Target is built for fast pistol drills, target transitions and head-to-head competition. Six 6" paddles flip from one side of the center post to the other when hit, providing immediate visual feedback without resetting targets downrange. Each paddle is CNC laser-cut from domestic 3/8" AR500 steel, while the 61" front deflector is CNC laser-cut from domestic 1/4" AR400 steel. The system includes a 41.5" x 34.5" base for a stable range setup. Made in the USA.

The dueling tree can be run solo or with two shooters. Work through the paddles for speed and accuracy drills, or compete to move all six plates to your opponent's side. The full-height AR400 deflector helps direct bullet splash away from the shooter and bystanders. This system is designed for centerfire handgun use only and is rated to a maximum muzzle velocity of 1,500 fps and maximum impact energy of 500 ft-lbs. Rifle use is not recommended.

Assembly

Assembly requires two 3/4" wrenches. Assemble the base, center structure, deflector and paddle components, then verify all hardware is secure and each paddle moves freely before shooting. The modular design allows individual components to be inspected and replaced as needed.

Safety and Usage

Minimum shooting distances and ratings:

  • Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
  • Maximum rated muzzle velocity: 1,500 fps
  • Maximum rated impact energy: 500 ft-lbs
  • Rifle use is not recommended

Always shoot perpendicular to the target face. Use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect all paddles, the deflector plate, base and mounting hardware before every session. Replace any component that shows cratering, severe pitting or structural damage. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

FAQs

How does a dueling tree work?
The six paddles are positioned on opposite sides of the center post. When a paddle is hit, it flips to the other side. Solo shooters can work through all six for speed and transition drills, while two shooters can compete to move the paddles onto the other shooter's side.

What ammunition is this target rated for?
The system is designed for centerfire handgun use at 10 yards minimum, with a maximum rated muzzle velocity of 1,500 fps and maximum impact energy of 500 ft-lbs. Rifle use is not recommended.

Why is there a deflector plate?
The 61" tall 1/4" AR400 deflector runs along the center structure and helps direct bullet splash away from the shooter and bystanders while the paddles move from side to side.

What size are the paddles?
The dueling tree includes six 6" paddles, each CNC laser-cut from 3/8" AR500 steel.

What tools are required for assembly?
Assembly requires two 3/4" wrenches. No specialized tools are required.

Does this target ship painted?
No. Shoot Steel targets ship unpainted. White target paint provides strong contrast downrange for tracking hits and refreshing the paddles between sessions.

Is this product made in the United States?
Yes. This product is manufactured in the United States from domestic AR500 and AR400 steel.

Well Made, Works Great

Posted by Kyle Hoermann on 23rd Jun 2026

It does what it is supposed to do, and I expect it to last a very long time. Assembly is simple, though I'd recommend having a helper due to the weight and size of this thing. I took mine to a local shop with a sandblaster to have the mill scale removed and prep the surfaces prior to painting. It would have been nice to have options for blasting and/or painting when ordering, but it is not a big deal. I'd like to see a wheel kit offered as an add-on. Most people are probably not moving these around frequently, but I'd prefer to move mine under cover when not in use. All it would take is two wheels on the back legs and a handle near the top and it could be wheeled around like a dolly.
