The 8" Rubber Chain Gong Target Mounting Kit includes everything you need to hang any ShootSteel 3/8" or 1/2" AR500 gong target using self-healing rubber chain. Shorter than our 12" kit, the 8" chain length is a good fit for setups where a tighter hang is preferred or stand geometry calls for less chain drop. Compatible with all ShootSteel gong targets and gong stands. Visit the ShootSteel YouTube channel to see our targets and stands in action. Made in the USA.

Important: This kit uses 5/16" quick links and is not compatible with ShootSteel T-Post Gong Hangers. For T-post setups, use the 15" Steel Chain Mounting Kit. For a complete stand, pair with the 60"x60" Complete Rigid Conduit Gong Stand.

What's Included

  • (2) 8" rubber chain lengths
  • (4) 5/16" quick links
  • (1) 1/2" bolt kit
  • Not included: Stand, target, paint

FAQs

What targets is this kit compatible with?
This kit works with all ShootSteel 3/8" and 1/2" AR500 gong targets and all ShootSteel gong stands. It is not compatible with T-Post Gong Hangers due to the 5/16" quick link size.

What is the difference between the 8" and 12" rubber chain kits?
The 8" chain provides a tighter hang with less swing travel on impact, which some shooters prefer for faster target reset and tighter stand geometry. The 12" chain allows more movement on impact, which reduces energy transfer to the mounting hardware and is the better choice for higher-energy cartridges or larger plates.

Why are the quick links 5/16" instead of 3/8"?
The 5/16" quick links are sized for this kit's rubber chain dimensions. They are not interchangeable with the 3/8" links used in T-Post Gong Hangers. Using the wrong quick link size in a T-post hanger setup creates an incompatible fit and should be avoided.

What is self-healing rubber chain?
Rubber chain absorbs and distributes impact energy from each hit, reducing shock at the mounting points and extending hardware life compared to steel chain. The self-healing property refers to rubber's ability to resist permanent deformation from repeated compression and impact loads over time.
