1/4" AR400 DIY KYL Rimfire Targets

The 1/4" AR400 DIY KYL Rimfire Targets let you build a custom Know Your Limits rack with the exact target sizes and quantity you want. Choose from 1/4", 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1 1/2", 2", 3" or 5" target sizes. Each target is CNC laser-cut from domestic 1/4" AR400 steel and includes two hangers for mounting to your own EMT crossbar. These targets are designed specifically for rimfire shooting and are made in the USA.

KYL targets challenge shooters to work through progressively smaller strike faces while maintaining accuracy and shot discipline. Build a short three-target rack or expand into a larger custom setup using additional targets, spacers and a longer EMT crossbar. For an easier complete build, pair these targets with the DIY KYL Rack Stand Kit. EMT tubing and the rack stand kit are sold separately.

Assembly

Mount each target to an EMT crossbar using the two included hangers. Cut the EMT tubing to the length needed for your target count and spacing. Shoot Steel provides spacer guidelines for 3-, 4- and 5-target racks, and the setup can be expanded with a longer crossbar, additional targets and additional spacers. The DIY KYL Rack Stand Kit provides the end brackets and pins for building a complete stand. You supply the EMT tubing for the crossbar, legs and spacers.

Minimum shooting distances:

• .22 Short, .22 Long and .22 LR: 10 yards minimum
• .22 Mag: 125 yards minimum
• .17 HM2: 50 yards minimum
• .17 HMR: 100 yards minimum
• .17 WSM: Not rated for this target
• Centerfire cartridges: Not rated for this target

These targets are for rimfire use only. Always shoot perpendicular to the target face. Use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect the target, hangers and rack before every session and replace any plate that shows cratering or severe pitting. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

FAQs

What target sizes are available?
Choose from 1/4", 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1 1/2", 2", 3" or 5" target sizes. Mixing sizes lets you build a KYL rack that becomes progressively more difficult as you work through the targets.

What calibers are these KYL targets rated for?
These 1/4" AR400 targets are designed for rimfire cartridges including .22 Short, .22 Long, .22 LR, .22 Mag, .17 HM2 and .17 HMR when used at the specified minimum distances. They are not rated for .17 WSM or centerfire cartridges.

What comes with each target?
Each target includes one CNC laser-cut 1/4" AR400 steel plate in your selected target size and two hangers for mounting to EMT tubing.

Do I need the DIY KYL Rack Stand Kit?
No. You can build your own EMT-based rack, but the DIY KYL Rack Stand Kit provides the end brackets and pins needed for a complete stand. EMT tubing is still supplied by the customer.

Can I build a rack with more than five targets?
Yes. Spacer guidelines are provided for 3-, 4- and 5-target racks, but the system can be expanded with a longer EMT crossbar, additional targets and additional spacers.

Why use AR400 for these rimfire targets?
The 1/4" AR400 construction is designed specifically for rimfire use, keeping the targets lighter and responsive while providing the steel construction needed for repeated rimfire training.

Does this target ship painted?
No. All Shoot Steel targets ship unpainted. Shoot Steel Target Paint can be used to improve visibility and make impacts easier to track.

Is this product made in the United States?
Yes. This product is manufactured in the United States from domestic AR400 steel.

• Welds: covered for 1 year from date of delivery

• Normal wear, pitting, cratering and target face degradation are not covered

To qualify for warranty coverage, targets must be used and maintained in accordance with Shoot Steel safety and distance guidelines, including:

• No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition
• Minimum recommended distances observed at all times
• Target mounted to Shoot Steel specifications
