Lone Star | Portable Texas Star | AR500 Reactive Target System

The Lone Star | Portable Texas Star | AR500 Reactive Target System delivers the challenge of a Texas Star in a compact, modular setup built for training and competition. The standard configuration includes five 8" reactive paddles and five arms made from 3/8" domestic AR500 steel, a CNC laser-cut hub with dual sealed bearings and a stable freestanding base. The system stands 51" tall with a 28"x28" footprint and weighs 86.5 lb in the standard five-target configuration. Manufactured in the United States.

As paddles are knocked off, the changing weight distribution causes the star to rotate and continually changes the next shot. The dual sealed bearings keep the hub spinning smoothly, while the adjustable Quick-Tune spring system lets you tune paddle-release tension for the ammunition being used. The modular system can also be configured with five additional targets, 1/4" AR400 rimfire paddles or a moving cardboard swinger.

Safety and Usage

The standard 3/8" AR500 paddles are rated for standard pistol cartridges producing up to 500 ft-lb of energy. The optional 1/4" AR400 rimfire paddles are designed for .22 LR and .22 Mag. Adjust the Quick-Tune spring system as needed so the paddles release properly with the firearm and ammunition being used.

Use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect the paddles, arms, hub, bearings, springs and stand before every session. Replace any target plate that shows cratering or severe pitting and replace any component showing cracking, deformation or excessive wear. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

The standard 3/8" AR500 paddles are rated for standard pistol cartridges producing up to 500 ft-lb of energy. For rimfire shooting, select the optional 1/4" AR400 paddles designed for .22 LR and .22 Mag. The system is also designed for shotgun training when used according to Shoot Steel guidelines.

What does the Quick-Tune spring system do?
The adjustable spring system lets you change paddle-release tension to better match the firearm and ammunition being used. This helps keep the Texas Star working consistently across different training setups.

Can I turn this into a 10-target Texas Star?
Yes. Select Add 10-Target Configuration to add five more arms and five more paddles, creating a full 10-target spinning system. The 10-target configuration weighs 135.5 lb.

Can I set it up specifically for rimfire?
Yes. Select Add Rimfire Targets to add lightweight 1/4" AR400 paddles designed for .22 LR and .22 Mag.

What does the Cardboard Swinger option add?
The Cardboard Swinger adds a moving cardboard-target element to the system for additional reactive training. The required 2x4 and cardboard targets are not included.

What is the stand made from?
The upright is steel tube protected by a 1/4" AR400 front cover, and the legs are made from hot-rolled steel. The standard target paddles and arms are 3/8" AR500 steel.

Is the Portable Texas Star used for competition?
Yes. The Lone Star is designed for both training and competition use, with a reactive five-paddle layout that can be expanded to ten targets.

Does this target system ship painted?
No. Shoot Steel targets and stands ship unpainted. White target paint provides strong contrast for tracking hits and monitoring target condition.
