For standard handgun use the bolts and springs last a long time, but if you are running magnum handgun cartridges or rifle rounds it is a good idea to keep spares on hand. When should I replace static target hanger hardware?
Inspect bolts, springs and lock nuts before every session. Replace any component that shows deformation, cracking, loss of spring tension or visible wear. Hardware used with magnum handgun cartridges and rifle rounds fatigues faster than hardware used with standard pistol calibers, so checking more frequently and keeping spares on hand is recommended for those applications.
Is this kit compatible with all ShootSteel static hangers?
Yes. This kit is the standard replacement hardware for ShootSteel static target hangers that use 1/2" carriage bolt mounting.
Why Grade 5 bolts?
Grade 5 hardware provides the right combination of strength and toughness for the dynamic load of repeated target impacts. Higher-grade hardware is harder but more brittle under impact stress. Grade 5 is the correct specification for this application.
