The 36"x36" 1/2" AR500 XXL Gong Target is Shoot Steel's largest steel gong, built for extreme-distance shooting and dedicated long-range rifle setups. The massive 36"x36" strike face is CNC laser-cut from U.S.-made 1/2" AR500 steel and weighs approximately 184 pounds, giving shooters a highly visible target with a deep audible ring and minimal movement on impact. Assembly
This target requires a heavy-duty stand capable of supporting its approximately 184-pound weight. Shoot Steel recommends the Complete 60" HD EMT Conduit Single Gong Stand with Grade 100 15" Steel Chain. Do not mount this target on standard T-posts, lightweight shepherd's hooks or other supports not designed for its weight.
Safety and Usage
Minimum shooting distances:
- Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
- Centerfire rifle at or below 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 100 yards minimum
- Rifle above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 200 yards minimum
- .338 Lapua Magnum: 200 yards minimum
- Increase distance any time you observe pitting on the target face
Always shoot perpendicular to the target face. Use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect the plate, chains, stand and mounting hardware before every session and replace any plate that shows cratering or severe pitting. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.
