The 36” x 36” XXL Gong Target, made from 1/2” AR500 American Steel, is our largest impact surface, designed for shooters who demand serious durability for long-distance and high-caliber rifle training. Each XXL Gong plate is CNC laser-cut to minimize the heat-affected zone and keep edges true for a flatter strike face, controlled splatter, and a crisp ring on impact. The ½" thickness ensures structural integrity against heavy magnum rounds that would warp thinner targets.

Secure the weight. Due to the massive footprint and ~184 lb. weight, this target requires a solid foundation. We recommend hanging it with Grade 100 15" Steel Chain on a Complete 60" HD EMT Conduit Single Gong Stand.

Hang it from a heavy-duty stand, apply a fresh coat of paint, and get to work. Due to the extreme weight, this target provides a distinct, deep ring and minimal swing, allowing for faster follow-up shots at distance. For ELR (Extreme Long Range) training, this AR500 system delivers the size, visibility, and durability required to push your limits.

Distance and Use Guidelines:

• Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum.

• Centerfire rifles up to 6.8 SPC & .30-30: 100 yards minimum; increase distance if you observe pitting.

• Higher-velocity rifles (>3,000 fps) or long-action magnums: Step up to ½“ AR550 for maximum longevity or increase distance if needed.

• Always shoot perpendicular, maintain a fresh coat of paint and replace damaged posts.

Why 1/2” AR500 for this XXL Gong setup? 1/2” AR500 offers the necessary mass and hardness to stop high-energy rounds like .338 Lapua Magnum without deforming. It provides longer service life for high-caliber training than standard ⅜" steel.

How do I mount this target? Due to the ~184 lb weight, this requires a heavy-duty setup. We recommend hanging with Grade 100 15" Steel Chain on a Complete 60" HD Gong Stand. Do not use standard T-posts or lightweight shepherds hooks.

What calibers is it rated for?
They are rated for all handgun calibers and rifles up to .338 Lapua Magnum. Minimum safe distance for rifles is 200 yards.

How is laser-cutting better?
CNC laser-cutting tightly controls the heat-affected zone, preserves hardness at the edge and yields a cleaner perimeter than plasma cutting. This means longer plate life and safer splatter.

Does it ship painted?
No. We ship unpainted so you can apply your preferred color. White or bright orange offer the best contrast downrange.

Is this product made in the United States?
Yes. This product is manufactured in the United States using premium U.S. AR500 steel.

Personal/Recreational Use

• Products used for personal or recreational shooting are covered against manufacturing or material defects from the date of delivery as follows: wear items, including target plates, for 90 days; welds for 1 year. This warranty covers weld integrity, materials and workmanship.

Commercial/Range Use

• Products used in a commercial range or training environment are covered against manufacturing or material defects for a period of 90 days from the date of purchase. This warranty covers weld integrity, materials and workmanship.

• Due to the high-volume and high-impact nature of range use, normal wear, pitting, cratering, or target face degradation are not covered under this warranty.

To qualify for coverage, targets must be used and maintained in accordance with ShootSteel safety and distance guidelines, including:

• No use of steel-core, armor-piercing, or tracer ammunition

• Minimum recommended distances observed

• Target mounted to ShootSteel specifications
