The 3/8" AR500 Modular Steel Target System is a tool-free, bolt-free setup that goes together in seconds and breaks down completely flat for storage and transport. Drop the 12"x20" 3/8" AR500 plate into the slots on the 1/4" AR400 base and stand it upright. That is the entire assembly process. The 20" base legs include both vertical and angled slots, giving you the choice between standard vertical hang and a forward-angled position that deflects splash downward, extends plate life and works on uneven terrain. Legs include stake holes for anchoring in soft ground. No tools, no welds, no bolts to strip or break. As seen on VSO Gun Channel...watch it here. Ships unpainted. Made in the USA.

Rated for all centerfire handguns and short-action rifles including .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor at the distances below.

What's Included

  • (1) 12"x20" target plate, 3/8" AR500, CNC laser-cut
  • (1) Base with 20" legs, 1/4" AR400, vertical and angled slots, stake holes
  • Not included: Paint

Safety and Usage

Minimum shooting distances:

  • Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
  • Rifle in vertical slot, at or below 3,000 fps: 100 yards minimum
  • Rifle in angled slot, .308 Win and similar: 75 yards minimum
  • Rifle above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 200 yards minimum
  • Increase distance any time you observe pitting on the target face

Always use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect the plate and base before every session. Replace any plate that shows cratering or severe pitting. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

FAQs

What calibers is the 3/8" AR500 Modular System rated for?
All centerfire handguns at 10 yards minimum and short-action rifle cartridges including .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor. In the vertical slot, 100 yards minimum. In the angled slot with .308 Win, 75 yards minimum. For rifles above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity, 200 yards minimum regardless of slot position.

What is the difference between the vertical and angled slots?
The vertical slot positions the plate straight up and down for standard target use. The angled slot tilts the plate forward at a fixed angle, which deflects splash downward rather than back toward the shooter, reduces stress on the plate over time and allows the system to be used on uneven or sloped terrain. The angled position also reduces the minimum distance for .308 Win from 100 yards to 75 yards.

How does the tool-free assembly work?
The plate drops into the slots on the base uprights and the base stands upright under its own weight and the weight of the plate. No bolts, tools or welding are required. The entire system breaks down into flat components for easy transport in a range bag or truck bed.

Can I stake this system into the ground?
Yes. The base legs include stake holes for anchoring into soft ground, which helps stabilize the system on uneven terrain and prevents movement from high-energy impacts.

Why CNC laser-cut instead of plasma-cut?
CNC laser-cutting controls the heat-affected zone more precisely than plasma cutting, preserving hardness at the plate edge. The result is a cleaner perimeter, longer plate life and more predictable splatter behavior on impact.

Does this system ship painted?
No. The target and base both ship unpainted. White and bright orange offer the best contrast downrange for tracking hits.

Is this product made in the United States?
Yes. This system is manufactured in the United States from domestic AR500 and AR400 steel.

Do you warranty your products?
Yes. We stand behind our products.
