The Hardox® 1/2" AR550 Steel Target Plate Rack is a reactive steel target system available in 4-target and 6-target configurations. Each setup uses 8" round Hardox® AR550 plates, rubber strap mounting kits, speed rack hangers and a pair of 2x4 gong brackets. Supply the required 2x4 lumber and you have a multi-target rack built for transitions, timed drills, training and competition. The complete Shoot Steel system is manufactured in the United States.
Each 8" plate is CNC laser-cut from Swedish-made 1/2" Hardox® AR550 steel for increased resistance to pitting and surface deformation from higher-velocity impacts. The rubber mounting system allows the plates to swing when hit, providing visible movement and audible steel feedback. The rubber straps are self-healing after many direct hits and can be replaced as they wear.

Assembly
Build the stand using the included 2x4 gong brackets and customer-supplied 2x4 lumber. For a 2x4-only setup, the current configuration calls for a 48" to 60" crossmember and four 60" to 80" legs. Install the speed rack hangers along the crossmember and suspend each 8" target using its rubber strap mounting kit.
For a stand with conduit legs, use 2x4 Hybrid Gong Stand Brackets. You can also add a Swinging Target Hanger Kit for additional reactive target positions.
Safety and Usage
This 1/2" Hardox® AR550 plate rack is rated for all centerfire handguns and rifles through .300 Win Mag when used at the proper minimum shooting distance.
Minimum shooting distances:
- Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
- Rifle under 2,800 fps muzzle velocity: 100 yards minimum
- Rifle over 2,800 fps muzzle velocity: 150 yards minimum
- Long-action rifles: 200 yards minimum
- Increase distance any time you observe pitting or cratering
Always shoot perpendicular to the target face. Use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect the plates, rubber straps, hangers and stand before every session. Replace any plate that shows cratering or severe pitting and replace worn or damaged mounting components before use. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

What is the difference between the 4-target and 6-target configurations?
The 4-target configuration includes four 8" Hardox® AR550 plates and corresponding mounting components. The 6-target configuration includes six plates and corresponding mounting components for a longer target sequence.

How do the targets react when hit?

Why choose Hardox® AR550 instead of AR500?
Hardox® AR550 is harder than AR500 and provides increased resistance to pitting and surface deformation, particularly with higher-velocity rifle impacts such as .223 Rem and 5.56 NATO.

Does this target system ship painted?
No. Shoot Steel targets ship unpainted. White target paint provides strong downrange contrast for tracking hits and monitoring the target faces.
