Long Range Starter Package

The Long Range Starter Package gives you two steel targets and the mounting components needed to build a serious long-range gong setup with standard 2x4 lumber. The package combines a 22"x30" XL Gong for increased visibility at distance with an 8" round gong for a smaller precision aiming point. It also includes 2x4 Gong Stand Brackets, two pairs of Hybrid Gong Target Hangers and two 8" Rubber Chain Mounting Kits. Supply the 2x4 lumber and paint, and you have a complete two-target range setup.

Both targets are CNC laser-cut from domestic 1/2" AR500 steel and are rated for rifle cartridges through .338 Lapua Magnum at the proper distance. The 8" Rubber Chain Mounting Kits provide a durable alternative to traditional steel chain, while the Hybrid Gong Target Hangers slide over a standard 2x4 crossmember for straightforward target placement and removal. The complete Shoot Steel package is manufactured in the United States.

Assembly

Build an A-frame style stand using standard 2x4 lumber and the included 2x4 Gong Stand Brackets. Slide the Hybrid Gong Target Hangers over the horizontal 2x4 crossmember, then suspend the 22"x30" and 8" gongs using the included 8" Rubber Chain Mounting Kits. The Hybrid Hangers are designed for a standard 2x4 crossmember.

Safety and Usage

The included 1/2" AR500 targets are rated for centerfire handguns and rifles through .338 Lapua Magnum when used at the proper minimum shooting distance.

Minimum shooting distances:

• Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
• Rifle at or below 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 100 yards minimum
• Rifle above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 200 yards minimum
• .338 Lapua Magnum: 200 yards minimum
• Increase distance any time you observe pitting on the target face

Always shoot perpendicular to the target face. Use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect the targets, rubber chains, hangers, brackets and stand before every session. Replace any plate that shows cratering or severe pitting and replace any damaged mounting component before use. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

What comes with the Long Range Starter Package?

Why does the package include two different target sizes?
The 22"x30" XL Gong gives you a large, easy-to-see target for confirming hits at extended distances. The 8" gong provides a smaller aiming point for precision work once you are dialed in.

What calibers are the targets rated for?

What lumber do I need?
The included brackets and hangers are designed around standard 2x4 lumber available at most hardware and building-supply stores. Lumber is not included.

Why use rubber instead of steel chain?
The 8" rubber chains are self-healing and are designed to keep functioning after many direct hits. They also avoid the broken-link problems that can occur when a bullet strikes traditional steel chain.

How do the Hybrid Gong Target Hangers install?
The hangers slide over a horizontal 2x4 crossmember, allowing the targets to be positioned without complicated mounting hardware or tools at the hanger.

Does this target package ship painted?
No. Shoot Steel targets ship unpainted. White target paint and orange target paint provide strong contrast for tracking hits at distance.

Is this product made in the United States?
Yes. This product is manufactured in the United States from domestic AR500 steel.

• Normal wear, pitting, cratering and target face degradation are not covered

To qualify for warranty coverage, targets must be used and maintained in accordance with Shoot Steel safety and distance guidelines, including:

• No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition
• Minimum recommended distances observed at all times
• Target mounted to Shoot Steel specifications
