Rifle Starter Package

The Rifle Starter Package combines three different steel target systems into one rifle-focused training setup. You get a Hardox® 1/2" AR550 Short Range Rifle Target for 50-yard training, a Magnum Target KYL Rack with 4", 6" and 8" targets for precision work, and three 5" Hardox® AR550 gongs with rubber mounting kits and 2x4 gong stand brackets for transition drills. The package gives rifle shooters multiple target styles without building each setup separately.

The Short Range Rifle Target uses a 12"x20" Swedish-made 1/2" Hardox® AR550 plate mounted at a fixed 40-degree forward angle for rifle use beginning at 50 yards. The Magnum KYL Rack uses CNC laser-cut 1/2" domestic AR500 targets that rotate on impact, while the three 5" gongs are CNC laser-cut from Swedish-made 1/2" Hardox® AR550 steel and hang from 8" rubber mounting kits. Shoot Steel products are manufactured in the United States.

Setup

The Short Range Rifle Target and Magnum KYL Rack are self-contained systems and do not require 2x4 lumber. For the three-gong setup, build the stand using standard 2x4 lumber and the included gong stand brackets, then hang the three 5" targets using the included 8" rubber mounting kits.

Safety and Usage

Hardox® AR550 Short Range Rifle Target:

• Centerfire rifle through .308 Win: 50 yards minimum
• Always maintain the fixed 40-degree forward target angle
• Lead-core, copper-jacketed ammunition only
• Pistols are not recommended for this target

Hardox® 1/2" AR550 Gong Targets:

• Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
• Rifle under 2,800 fps muzzle velocity: 100 yards minimum
• Rifle over 2,800 fps muzzle velocity: 150 yards minimum
• Long-action rifles: 200 yards minimum
• Maximum rifle cartridge: .300 Win Mag
• Increase distance any time you observe pitting or cratering

Magnum KYL Rack:

• Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
• Rifle at or below 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 100 yards minimum
• Rifle above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 200 yards minimum
• Increase distance any time you observe pitting on the target face

Always shoot perpendicular to the applicable target face and follow the product-specific instructions for each system. Use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect all targets, stands, hangers and mounting components before every session. Replace any plate that shows cratering or severe pitting and replace damaged mounting components before use. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

What is the Short Range Rifle Target used for?
The Short Range Rifle Target is built specifically for rifle training beginning at 50 yards. Its 12"x20" Hardox® AR550 plate is held at a fixed 40-degree forward angle and should always be used in that position.

What does the Magnum KYL Rack include?
The KYL Rack uses 4", 6" and 8" targets made from 1/2" AR500 steel. The progressively smaller target sizes are designed for precision shooting and accuracy drills.

What are the three 5" gongs designed for?
The three 5" Hardox® AR550 gongs give you multiple smaller targets for transitions, timing drills and rifle practice. They hang from the included 8" rubber mounting kits.

What lumber do I need?
Only the three-gong setup requires customer-supplied lumber. Use standard 2x4 lumber with the included gong stand brackets. The Short Range Rifle Target and Magnum KYL Rack are self-contained.

Why does this package use both AR500 and Hardox® AR550?
The Short Range Rifle Target and 5" gongs use Swedish-made Hardox® AR550 steel for increased resistance to pitting, while the Magnum KYL Rack uses 1/2" domestic AR500 steel for its rotating precision targets.

Does this package ship painted?
No. Shoot Steel targets ship unpainted. White target paint provides strong contrast for tracking impacts and monitoring target condition.

Is this product made in the United States?
Yes. Shoot Steel products are manufactured in the United States. The AR500 steel is domestic, while the Hardox® AR550 steel is made in Sweden.

• Welds: covered for 1 year from date of delivery

Commercial and Range Use

• All components: covered against manufacturing and material defects for 90 days from date of purchase
• Coverage includes weld integrity, materials and workmanship
• Normal wear, pitting, cratering and target face degradation are not covered

To qualify for warranty coverage, targets must be used and maintained in accordance with Shoot Steel safety and distance guidelines, including:

• No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition
• Minimum recommended distances observed at all times
• Target mounted to Shoot Steel specifications
