The Static Classic Popper gives you the satisfying ring of a steel target and the durability to back it up, without the complexity of a full auto-reset system. The 3/8" AR500 steel plate is mounted to a 1/4" AR400 hardened steel base via high-strength die springs that absorb impact energy on every hit, keeping the target in place and protecting the hardware from shot-to-shot punishment. Strike it and you get instant audible confirmation. No walking downrange, no resetting, just shoot.
The round plate profile makes this a natural choice for handgun accuracy drills, pistol fundamentals and carbine practice at rifle-appropriate distances. The spring-loaded base does two jobs: it dampens the impact force that would otherwise stress the mounting hardware over thousands of rounds, and it keeps the target standing session after session without the maintenance demands of a more complex mechanical system. Two high-strength bolts and all mounting hardware are included. Ships ready to assemble.
Rated for centerfire handguns and centerfire rifles up to .223/5.56. Target ships unpainted. Shipping applies to the lower 48 United States. For inquiries outside the lower 48, contact us at customerservice@shootsteel.com.

FAQs
What does "static" mean on this target?
Unlike our auto popper targets that flip rearward on impact and spring back upright, the Static Classic Popper stays in position when hit. The spring-loaded base absorbs the impact energy and keeps the target standing. You get the audible ring of a steel hit and continuous shooting without any mechanical reset sequence.
Why use a spring-loaded base instead of a rigid mount?
A rigid mount transfers all impact energy directly into the hardware on every shot. Over high round counts that stress welds, bolts and the base itself. The die springs in this base absorb and dissipate that energy, dramatically extending the service life of the mounting system and keeping the target upright and stable through thousands of rounds.
What calibers is this target rated for?
Centerfire handguns and centerfire rifles up to .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor at the distances listed above. For higher-powered rifle cartridges, see our 1/2" AR500 target options.
What is the difference between AR500 and AR400 steel?
AR500 is harder than AR400 and is used for the target face where rounds impact directly. AR400 is used for the base, where the primary stress is structural rather than direct impact. Using AR400 in the base gives it the toughness to handle repeated loading and hardware stress without the added cost of running AR500 throughout.
How difficult is assembly?
The Static Classic Popper ships ready to assemble with all hardware included. Two high-strength bolts secure the plate to the spring-loaded base. No special tools required.
Does it ship painted?
No. The target ships as bare steel so you can apply your preferred color. White and bright orange provide the best downrange visibility.
