The 3/8" AR500 Steel Target Package combines the Short Range Rifle Steel Target Stand with a 12"x20" 3/8" AR500 static target, giving you a ready-to-shoot setup that handles pistol fundamentals and rifle work up to .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor without sourcing components separately.

The Short Range Rifle Steel Target Stand is built entirely from steel, which eliminates wood posts, mild steel components and the maintenance that comes with them. The 1/4" AR400 legs handle direct pistol hits without compromising the stand's stability or geometry, and the wide base holds position on uneven ground without staking. The 3/8" AR500 two-piece upright is CNC laser-cut for precision and durability, and a heavy-duty die spring absorbs high-energy rifle impacts while keeping the target stable for fast follow-up shots. The included Slide-Lock Hanger is compatible with all ShootSteel static-style targets, so swapping plates is fast when you want to change drills. Safety and Usage

Minimum shooting distances:

• Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
• Centerfire rifle at or below 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 100 yards minimum; increase distance if pitting is observed
• Centerfire rifle above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 200 yards minimum; increase distance if pitting is observed
• Maximum rated cartridge: .308 Win / 6.5 Creedmoor

Always use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect the target and stand before every session. Replace any plate that shows cratering or severe pitting. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health.

FAQs

What calibers is this package rated for?
Centerfire handguns at 10 yards minimum and centerfire rifles up to .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor at 100 yards minimum. For muzzle velocities above 3,000 fps, increase distance to 200 yards minimum. Avoid steel-core, armor-piercing and tracer ammunition.

Why all-steel construction instead of wood posts?
Wood posts absorb direct hits and split under sustained rifle fire, requiring frequent replacement and creating inconsistent stand geometry over time. An all-steel stand eliminates that failure point entirely. The 1/4" AR400 legs handle direct pistol hits without damage, and there are no wood components to check, replace or re-square between sessions.

What does the die spring do?
The heavy-duty die spring sits between the target plate and the upright, absorbing the energy of high-velocity rifle impacts and returning the stand to its stable position for fast follow-up shots. It also reduces the stress transferred to the upright and base under sustained rifle fire, extending the service life of the stand.

Can I use other targets with this stand?
Yes. The Slide-Lock Hanger is compatible with all ShootSteel static-style targets. Additional Slide-Lock Hangers are available separately so you can keep multiple target sizes ready and swap between them without tools.

How tall is the stand?
Fully assembled, the stand measures 4 feet tall before the target is mounted. Final height increases slightly depending on the target size in use.

Does assembly require tools?
Basic assembly is required but no special tools are needed. The stand goes together with standard hand tools and stays assembled between sessions.

Does it ship painted?
No. The target and stand ship as bare steel so you can apply your preferred color. White and bright orange provide the best downrange visibility.

Is this product made in the United States?
Yes. Our targets and stands are manufactured in the United States.

• Normal wear, pitting, cratering and target face degradation from high-volume or high-impact use are not covered

To qualify for warranty coverage, targets must be used and maintained in accordance with ShootSteel safety and distance guidelines, including:

• No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition
• Minimum recommended distances observed at all times
• Targets mounted to ShootSteel specifications
