1/2" AR500 Steel Target Plate Rack

The 1/2" AR500 Steel Target Plate Rack is a reactive steel target system available with four or six 8" round plates. Each target is CNC laser-cut from domestic 1/2" AR500 steel and mounts on self-healing rubber straps to swing on impact and provide clear visual and audible hit feedback. The package includes the targets, rubber strap kits, speed rack hangers and a pair of 2x4 gong brackets for building the stand. 2x4 lumber is not included.

The included gong brackets let you build the rack around a 2x4 crossbeam and legs. The recommended crossbeam length is 48 to 60 inches, with four legs cut between 60 and 80 inches. For a setup using conduit legs, pair the rack with 2x4 Hybrid Gong Stand Brackets. You can also expand your target setup with the Swinging Target Hanger Kit, sold separately. The targets ship unpainted.

Assembly

Build the stand using the included 2x4 gong brackets and your own 2x4 lumber. Shoot Steel recommends a 48 to 60 inch crossbeam with four legs cut between 60 and 80 inches. Mount the 8" plates to the speed rack hangers using the supplied rubber strap kits. Carriage bolts and springs for the speed rack hangers are not included.

For a stand with conduit legs instead of wood legs, use the 2x4 Hybrid Gong Stand Brackets, sold separately.

Safety and Usage

Minimum shooting distances:

• Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
• Rifle at or below 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 100 yards minimum
• Rifle above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 200 yards minimum
• Increase distance any time you observe pitting on the target face

Always shoot perpendicular to the target face. Use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect the plates, rubber straps, hangers and stand before every session and replace any plate that shows cratering or severe pitting. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

How many targets are included?
Choose a 4-target or 6-target configuration. Both versions use 8" round targets CNC laser-cut from domestic 1/2" AR500 steel.

How does the plate rack react when hit?
Each target mounts on self-healing rubber straps that allow the plate to swing when struck. The movement and steel impact provide immediate visual and audible feedback.

What do I need to complete the stand?
The package includes a pair of 2x4 gong brackets, but the lumber is not included. Shoot Steel recommends a 48 to 60 inch crossbeam and four legs cut between 60 and 80 inches.

Can I use conduit legs instead of wood?
Yes. The rack can be upgraded with 2x4 Hybrid Gong Stand Brackets if you want to use conduit legs with the 2x4 crossbeam.

Can I add more swinging targets?
Yes. The Swinging Target Hanger Kit is sold separately and can be used to expand your reactive target setup.

Does this target rack ship painted?
No. All Shoot Steel targets ship unpainted. Shoot Steel Target Paint can be used to improve visibility and make impacts easier to track.

Is this product made in the United States?
Yes. The targets are manufactured in the United States from domestic AR500 steel.

• Normal wear, pitting, cratering and target face degradation are not covered

To qualify for warranty coverage, targets must be used and maintained in accordance with Shoot Steel safety and distance guidelines, including:

• No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition
• Minimum recommended distances observed at all times
• Target mounted to Shoot Steel specifications
