The 3/8" AR500 22"x30" Gong Target gives you a large, generous strike face built to handle thousands of rounds of rifle and pistol fire. At 22" wide and 30" tall, this plate is one of the most practical large-format targets in the ShootSteel lineup for both long-range rifle practice and high-volume pistol drills where a forgiving hit zone keeps sessions moving. Each plate is CNC laser-cut from certified 3/8" AR500 steel, preserving full hardness across the entire face including the edges. Two 1/2" mounting holes are laser-cut for clean, precise hardware fit. Pairs with the Rigid Conduit Gong Stand or 2x4 A-frame Brackets for optimal swing and splatter deflection. Rated for all standard and magnum handguns and rifles up to .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor. Ships unpainted. Made in the USA.

Safety and Usage

Minimum shooting distances:

• Centerfire handgun, standard and magnum: 10 yards minimum
• Rifle at or below 3,000 fps muzzle velocity (.308 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor): 100 yards minimum
• Rifle above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 200 yards minimum
• Increase distance any time you observe pitting on the target face

Always shoot perpendicular to the target face. Use at least Grade 5 mounting hardware. Use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect the plate, chain and all hardware before every session. Replace any plate that shows cratering or severe pitting. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

What calibers is this target rated for?
All standard and magnum centerfire handguns at 10 yards minimum and rifle cartridges up to .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor at 100 yards minimum. For rifles above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity, increase to 200 yards minimum and monitor the plate for pitting after each session.

Why 22"x30" instead of a smaller gong size?
The 22"x30" format gives you a full-torso strike face that is practical for both timed drills and long-range confirmation shooting where a smaller plate would be harder to read at distance. It is also the minimum crossmember span recommended for the Complete 60" HD Gong Stand, making it a natural pairing for shooters building out a heavy-duty range setup.

What stand and hardware work best with this target?
At approximately 70 lb, this plate requires a stand rated for large, heavy gongs. The Rigid Conduit Gong Stand and 2x4 A-frame Brackets are both well-suited to this plate. For chain, the 15" Steel Chain Mounting Kit is recommended for a target this size.

Why CNC laser-cut instead of plasma-cut?
CNC laser-cutting controls the heat-affected zone more precisely than plasma cutting, preserving hardness at the plate edge. The result is a cleaner perimeter, longer plate life and more predictable splatter behavior on impact.

Does this target ship painted?
No. All ShootSteel targets ship unpainted. White and bright orange offer the best contrast downrange for tracking hits.

Is this product made in the United States?
Yes. This target is manufactured in the United States from certified AR500 steel.
