At 72 lb it is a substantial plate, and the package bundles the 15" Steel Chain, Hybrid Hangers and 2x4 Gong Stand Brackets so you are not sourcing hardware separately. Safety and Usage

Minimum shooting distances:

• Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
• Rifle at or below 3,000 fps muzzle velocity (.308 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor): 100 yards minimum
• Rifle above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 200 yards minimum
• Increase distance any time you observe pitting on the target face

Always shoot perpendicular to the target face. Use at least Grade 5 mounting hardware. Use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect the plate, chain and all hardware before every session. Replace any plate that shows cratering or severe pitting. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

What calibers is this package rated for?
All centerfire handguns at 10 yards minimum and short-action rifle cartridges including .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor at 100 yards minimum. For rifles above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity, increase to 200 yards minimum and monitor the plate for pitting after each session.

What lumber do I need to complete the stand?
Standard 2x4 dimensional lumber available at any hardware or home improvement store. Cut the crossmember to 48-60" and four legs to 60-80" each. The product photos show 60" legs as a reference point. Lumber is not included.

How does the chain attach to the hybrid hangers?
The 15" steel chain locks into the hybrid hangers without tools. Position the hangers on your 2x4 crossmember, drop the chain through and the target is ready to hang. No drilling or additional hardware required for the chain connection.

Why is the rectangle format useful compared to a round gong?
The 22"x30" rectangle mirrors a full human torso silhouette, making it a practical format for defensive shooting drills, precision rifle practice and any session where realistic target geometry matters. The larger surface area also gives you more useful data on shot placement across an entire string compared to a round plate of equivalent diameter.

Why CNC laser-cut instead of plasma-cut?
CNC laser-cutting controls the heat-affected zone more precisely than plasma cutting, preserving hardness at the plate edge. The result is a cleaner perimeter, longer plate life and more predictable splatter behavior on impact.

Does this package ship painted?
No. All ShootSteel targets ship unpainted. White and bright orange offer the best contrast downrange for tracking hits.

Is this product made in the United States?
Yes. This target is manufactured in the United States from domestic AR500 steel.
