Everything you need to hang a 3/8" or 1/2" ShootSteel gong target in one kit. The 15" Grade 100 Steel Chain Gong Mounting Kit includes a 15" length of 3/8" Grade 100 chain, two quick links and a 1/2" bolt kit so you have all the hardware to get your target hanging safely without sourcing components separately. Grade 100 chain is rated for significantly higher working loads than standard or Grade 70 chain, which matters on gong targets that take repeated rifle hits and generate dynamic load on the hardware with every impact.

Safety and Usage

Minimum shooting distances are determined by the target plate used with this hardware. Always inspect chain, quick links and bolt hardware before every session. Replace any component that shows deformation, cracking or wear. Use Grade 100 chain only with targets and loads it is rated to support. Do not substitute lower-grade chain on gong targets subject to repeated rifle impacts.

What gong targets is this kit compatible with?
This kit is designed for ShootSteel 3/8" and 1/2" gong targets. For 3/4" AR500 big-bore gong targets rated for 50 BMG, see our heavy-duty BMG mounting hardware.

Why Grade 100 chain instead of standard chain?
Grade 100 chain has a significantly higher rated working load than standard or Grade 70 chain. On a steel gong taking repeated rifle impacts, the chain absorbs dynamic shock load with every hit. Standard chain fatigues at the links over time and can fail under that repeated stress. Grade 100 chain handles the load reliably through high round counts without stretching or cracking.

Why 15" of chain?
The 15" length positions the gong far enough below the crossmember or mounting point to swing freely on impact and return to center without contacting the stand hardware. A shorter chain restricts movement and transfers more impact energy to the mounting point. A longer chain can cause the target to swing excessively and take longer to settle between shots.

Do I need a specific stand for this kit?
This kit is compatible with any stand that accepts a standard bolt mount and quick link connection. Compatible ShootSteel stand options include the Fence Post Hanger Set of Two and the 60"x60" Complete Rigid Conduit Gong Stand.

• No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition
• Minimum recommended distances observed at all times
• Targets mounted to ShootSteel specifications
