1. Hardox® ½” AR550 Short Range Rifle Target: Built for professional environments, this static target delivers unmatched resistance for high-volume rifle training at 50 yards and beyond.

• Safety Engineered: The all-steel base sets the impact plate at a fixed 40° forward angle, safely directing bullet splatter downward for close-range engagement.
• AR550 Armor: Features a 12″ x 20″ plate crafted from ½″ AR550 (premium Swedish steel), offering greater surface hardness than AR500 to resist pitting and cratering.
• No Wood Posts: The system eliminates weak points like wood posts and bolts, locking together quickly with a wide, low-profile stance for stability.

2. Magnum Target KYL Rack: ½” AR500 Steel Built for shooters who want to push their precision to the next level.

Distance and Use Guidelines:

• Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum.
• Centerfire rifles up to .308: 100 yards minimum; increase distance if you observe pitting.
• Always shoot perpendicular, maintain a fresh coat of paint and replace damaged posts.

Safety and usage

*Minimum distances:

• Handgun: ≥ 10 yards
• Rifle ≤ 3,000 fps muzzle: ≥ 100 yards; increase distance if you observe pitting
• Rifle > 3,000 fps muzzle: ≥ 200 yards; increase distance if you observe pitting

Use quality eye and ear protection, inspect targets before use and replace any plate that shows cratering or severe pitting. Repaint regularly to track impacts and surface health.

FAQs

Why is this the ultimate rifle setup? It covers all three “zones” of engagement. The Short Range Target allows for closer engagement (50y) than standard steel. The Triple Gong Rack allows for rapid fire across multiple targets with premium AR550 durability. The KYL Rack builds precision skills with progressively smaller targets.

What is the difference between the steel types included? This package is heavily armored. Both the Short Range Target AND the 5″ Gongs are made of ½” AR550 (harder than AR500), making them perfect for high-velocity rounds like 5.56. The KYL Rack uses standard AR500, which is optimized for 100+ yard precision work.

What lumber do I need? For the Short Range Target and KYL, no lumber is needed (they are self-contained). For the Gong Rack, you will need to purchase standard 2×4 studs from a local hardware store to use with the included brackets.

Will the KYL Rack stand up to rifles? Yes. The Magnum KYL is built specifically for this. It uses ½” thick targets that rotate freely on impact to dissipate energy, making it durable enough for repeated hits from powerful rifle cartridges.

Why use rubber hangers for the gongs? Rubber hangers are superior to chains because they are “self-healing” (bullets pass through them).

How is laser-cutting better?
CNC laser-cutting tightly controls the heat-affected zone, preserves hardness at the edge and yields a cleaner perimeter than plasma cutting. This means longer plate life and safer splatter.

Does it ship painted?
No. We ship unpainted so you can apply your preferred color. White or bright orange offer the best contrast downrange.

Is this product made in the United States?
Yes. Our targets are manufactured in the United States using premium US AR500 steel or Swedish AR550 steel.

Personal/Recreational Use

• Products used for personal or recreational shooting are covered against manufacturing or material defects from the date of delivery as follows: wear items, including target plates, for 90 days; welds for 1 year. This warranty covers weld integrity, materials and workmanship.

Commercial/Range Use

• Products used in a commercial range or training environment are covered against manufacturing or material defects for a period of 90 days from the date of purchase. This warranty covers weld integrity, materials and workmanship.
• Due to the high-volume and high-impact nature of range use, normal wear, pitting, cratering, or target face degradation are not covered under this warranty.

To qualify for coverage, targets must be used and maintained in accordance with ShootSteel safety and distance guidelines, including:

• No use of steel-core, armor-piercing, or tracer ammunition
• Minimum recommended distances observed
• Target mounted to ShootSteel specifications
