3/8" Speed Plate Rack Target System | Five 8" AR500 Steel Plates

The Speed Plate Rack Target System gives you a fully functional five-plate rack for a fraction of the cost of a welded steel stand. Five 8" AR500 plates hang from zinc-plated speed rack hangers that slide onto a standard 2x4 cross-member, giving you a plate rack that sets up in minutes and can be adjusted, reconfigured or expanded without tools. The 2x4 is not included and is available at any hardware store, keeping shipping weight down and letting you source lumber locally at the length that fits your range setup.

Each plate is 3/8" AR500 steel, rated for pistol and rifle calibers at appropriate distances. The zinc-plated hangers resist corrosion through seasons of outdoor range use and all mounting hardware ships in the box. For shooters who want to raise the targets off the ground, optional 40" EMT conduit legs position the plates approximately 24" above ground for comfortable shooting at a natural eye level. The hangers are also compatible with other AR500 static plate sizes, so you can mix target diameters on the same cross-member to build a more varied rack. The Speed Rack Hanger is available separately if you want to expand beyond five plates.

Safety and Usage

Minimum shooting distances:

• Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
• Centerfire rifle at or below 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 100 yards minimum; increase distance if pitting is observed
• Maximum rated caliber: .308 Win / 6.5 Creedmoor

Always use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect all plates and hangers before every session. Replace any component that shows cratering, severe pitting or structural damage. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health.

FAQs

Why build a plate rack with a 2x4 instead of a welded steel stand?
A welded steel stand is a fixed, heavy piece of equipment. A 2x4 cross-member is available at any hardware store, costs next to nothing, and can be cut to any length you want. If a round clips the wood, you replace a $3 board instead of shipping a steel stand back for repair. The zinc-plated hangers and AR500 plates provide the durability. The 2x4 keeps the system light, cheap and field-serviceable.

What calibers is this system rated for?
Centerfire handguns at 10 yards minimum and centerfire rifles up to .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor at 100 yards minimum. Increase distance if pitting is observed. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

Can I use different plate sizes on the same rack?
Yes. The zinc-plated hangers are compatible with other AR500 static plates beyond the included 8" rounds. Mix in larger or smaller plates on the same cross-member to create a varied rack that challenges shot placement and transitions at the same time.

What are the optional EMT conduit legs for?
The 40" EMT conduit legs raise the cross-member so the plates sit approximately 24" off the ground, a comfortable height for standing pistol and rifle drills. Without the legs the rack sits lower, which may work fine depending on your range setup and shooting position. EMT conduit is available at any hardware or electrical supply store.

Do I need any special tools for assembly?
No special tools required. Slide the hangers onto the 2x4, attach the plates with the included hardware and your rack is ready. A standard wrench or socket set handles all fasteners.

Does it ship painted?
No. The plates ship as bare steel so you can apply your preferred color. White and bright orange provide the best downrange visibility.
