The 3/8" AR500 Round Gong Target delivers a loud, satisfying ring on every hit and holds up through high-volume shooting sessions. CNC laser-cut from domestic AR500 steel, each plate maintains hardness and edge integrity for longer service life compared to plasma-cut alternatives. Available in 4", 6", 8", 10", 12" and 16" diameters to match your distance, training goal and mounting setup. Each plate ships with 1/2" pre-drilled mounting holes and works with T-post hangers, static hangers, conduit stands and speed rack systems. Ships unpainted. Made in the USA.

Safety and Usage

Minimum shooting distances:

• Centerfire handgun: 10 yards minimum
• Rifle at or below 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 100 yards minimum
• Rifle above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity: 200 yards minimum
• Increase distance any time you observe pitting on the target face

Always shoot perpendicular to the target face. Use at least Grade 5 mounting hardware. Use quality eye and ear protection. Inspect the plate before every session and replace any plate that shows cratering or severe pitting. Repaint regularly to track impacts and monitor surface health. No steel-core, armor-piercing or tracer ammunition.

What calibers is the 3/8" AR500 round gong rated for?
All centerfire handguns at 10 yards minimum and short-action rifle cartridges including .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor at 100 yards minimum. For rifles above 3,000 fps muzzle velocity, increase to 200 yards minimum and monitor the plate for pitting after each session.

What size should I choose?
Smaller diameters like the 4" and 6" are well suited for precision pistol drills and close-range carbine work. The 8" and 10" are the most versatile all-around sizes for standard range distances. The 12" and 16" give you a larger feedback zone for longer distances and faster target transitions.

What mounting hardware do I need?
Each plate includes a 1/2" pre-drilled mounting hole. Use at least Grade 5 hardware. Compatible setups include the T-Post Hanger, 2x4 Static Hanger, Rigid Conduit Gong Stand and speed rack systems.

Why CNC laser-cut instead of plasma-cut?
CNC laser-cutting controls the heat-affected zone more precisely than plasma cutting, preserving hardness at the plate edge rather than softening it during the cut. The result is a cleaner perimeter, longer plate life and more predictable splatter behavior on impact.

Does this target ship painted?
No. All ShootSteel targets ship unpainted. White and bright orange offer the best contrast downrange for tracking hits.

Is this product made in the United States?
Yes. This target is manufactured in the United States from domestic AR500 steel.

• Target mounted to ShootSteel specifications
